The staggered half double pairs stitch produces a supple and softly textured fabric that would work well on a child’s blanket. The stitch count is maintained by working twice into each stitch along the row to compensate for working two stitches together. This stitch would suit all yarn weights and grows very quickly. 1. Make a slipknot and work a foundation chain, Ch 2. 2. Double crochet 2 stitches together (dc2tog) over 4th and 5th ch from hook. 3. *Ch1, dc2tog by inserting hook in next 2ch; rep from * to last ch. 4. Ch1, 1 double crochet stitch in last ch, turn. Staggered Double Crochet Pairs on Subsequent Rows 5. Ch3, dc2tog over first and 2nd ch sp, *ch1, dc2tog by inserting hook in same ch sp as last st, then in next ch sp; rep from * working 2nd leg of last dc2tog under turning chain of previous row, ch1, 1dc in 3rd ch of same turning chain, turn. 6. Repeat Step 5.
